What is Pampering?

There is a close relationship between Loving, Pampering, and Spoiling. 

Pampering-catering for one's needs and desires excessively, which in turn adversely affects his character and attitude towards life.

On the other hand, loving is giving them what they need to lead a physical and emotional life and grow holistically.
Push-over parents- Buy the latest gadgets, and toys, wash, cook, clean, do their homework and assignments, and look for a job for them touting their CVs as they play Video games at home.

Why do you Pamper Children?
  • We do it unknowingly
  • For love and affection (protect and accommodate) we want them to lead simple pleasant lives
  • We had tough childhoods
Alfred Adler an eminent psychiatrist said, “I believe pampering is one of the greatest evils of mankind


10 Symptoms of Pampered Children
  • Take things for granted
  • Show no value for money
  • Places illegitimate demands
  • Extremely obstinate (Their way or the highway)
  • Uses bad language
  • Things must be done for them by hook or crook
  • No imitative to learn or do things for themselves
  • Always fights peers
  • Bullies others
  • Loses sense of right or wrong.
How Do you Pamper?
  • Buy them everything they want
  • Buy them things over necessities
  • Take their side when things go wrong
  • You don’t let them do things for themselves
  • Give them money whenever they ask for it
How do you Prevent Pampering?
  • Change your belief system
  • Control your temptation to pamper them (give them want they need not want their desires)
  • Be the parent
  • Learn to say no
  • Teach them the value of money
  • Respond to their mistakes, let them stumble (Dettol's mum)
  • Let the child be herself/himself

- Selfishness
- Egoistic
- Aggressiveness
- Violent
- Impatient
- Emotionally weak

Conclusion

In as much as you can do your best in raising your child, some won’t turn out as you desire. Dr. Stella Thomas and Dr. Alexander Thomas also identified congenital temperament as a reason for troublesome children. Some children are just difficult (Trump???) however nurturing you can be.
