I have been trying to hold my tongue and fingers about Samantha, but I can't do it anymore.
Who is Samantha?
In case you didn't get the memo, Samantha is a sex doll/robot which can respond to different scenarios and even conversations because she is developed with Artificial Intelligence (AI). Apparently, she has several modes which include family, sexy and romantic. Girl, is she good? To have her or rather own her you will just need to part with 2,500 Euros.
Why Samantha?
The presence of Samantha has received mixed reactions from Kenyans and people around the world. Let's all agree, this invention did not happen by chance. Every invention is a response to a demand or need. For this particular invention, I am not sure what the need is but I can speculate.
Maslow (1943, 1954) in his theory of the Hierarchy of Needs categorizes Sex as a basic human need. Which is in the same category as air, food, shelter, warmth, and sleep. So it is actually taken to be a very serious need. I don't think it affects your chances of survival but it has been disguised like it actually does. To respond to this need then Samantha becomes relevant. However, she is at an advantage over other women who need to go through the "wife material litmus test".
There are different reasons why men will opt for Samantha. First, there is the notion that she is not demanding, which is debatable. According to the creators, she needs attention and syncs with your personality after several interactions. With time, Samantha reads you and lives by your parameters. That is beside my point. Others like her because you do not need to spend on her. I wonder where you categorize the electricity bill and maintenance cost and probably the software upgrade.
All in all, Samantha has been presented to be more cost-effective and better to live with. Hence, the reason why I am calling her a contestant for "Wife Material".
So is it enough for a man to just have sex and go on with his life without interaction and emotions?
Love and Belonging
Say all you want but Samantha will never be a wife. Human beings were created as social beings and hence the need for love and belonging is third in Maslow's Hierarchy.

You might live with Samantha but you will still crave the need to talk to someone, share your life with them, build a family, go out with and even create memories with them. This is the natural order. God made a woman be a companion and no doll can do that.
Genesis 2:18 Then the Lord God said, "I see that it is not good for the man to be alone. I will make the companion he needs, one just right for him."
At the end of the day, the so-called "Wife Material" will still be a woman.
